Derived from Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman 

by Shaykh Abu `Abdu-r-Rahman Nasir as-Sa`di (1307-1376H) 

Among the highest and most esteemed levels of understanding is to recognize the Lord, the 

Radiant, by His splendour. This represents the understanding held by the upper class of this 

formation. Each of them knows Him through one of His Attributes. 

Yet, the individuals among them with the most thorough understanding are those who are aware. 

Him through His flawlessness, grandeur, and beauty. Nothing is equivalent. 

to Him in any of His Traits, if you were to consider that all of existence was 

in its finest state, and if you attempted to contrast their combined external 

and inner beauty to the beauty of the Lord, the Majestic, the analogy would be 

more powerless than a dim lantern placed before the scorching sphere of the sun. 

This essay has been derived from the introductory phrases of Shaykh Nasir as-Sa`di, 

may Allah grant him mercy, to his exegesis of the Qur’an, Taysir al-Karim al- 

Rahman, in which he eloquently and briefly elucidates those Names of Allah that 

happen in the Qur’an. Following every explanation, the translator included a few verses of 

the Qur’an demonstrating the application of the specific Name in question. It must additionally be 

observed that the writer, may Allah bestow His mercy upon him, has solely referred to those 

In his opinion, there are a total of eighty-nine names mentioned in the Qur’an.
